There is one theory that a warship named the USS Amphritrite got stuck there for two years causing a greater pile up around its stern. Others believe that the island was simply formed by the ebb and flow of the river. Not sure why but maybe because of Covid there was no one inside to help. To get to Mud Island you have to walk up a slight hill to the bridge that goes over to the island. The escalators were not working so be prepared to walk up and down 5 flights of stairs.
